Biography
Steven Hernandez is an emerging filmmaker whose passion for storytelling is rooted in a lifelong love of cinema, particularly the horror genre. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Steven grew up captivated by films that blended imagination, suspense, and emotional impact. That fascination with horror and its ability to both entertain and provoke thought continues to influence his creative vision today.
Steven earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Central Florida, where he developed a strong foundation in research, critical thinking, and cultural analysis—skills that now inform his screenwriting and directing. He later pursued a Master of Fine Arts in Film Production at Full Sail University, where he refined his craft behind the camera. While at Full Sail, Steven gained practical, hands-on experience by working in multiple roles on short film productions, including 2nd Assistant Camera (AC), Production Assistant, Director, Producer, and Screenwriter. These diverse experiences gave him a comprehensive understanding of the filmmaking process and the collaboration required to bring stories to life.
Dedicated to capturing the essence of each moment on screen, Steven approaches filmmaking with creativity, discipline, and a strong sense of purpose. His ultimate goal is to create thought-provoking, visually striking films that resonate with audiences while honoring his passion for the horror genre. By combining technical skill with a love of storytelling, Steven aspires to build a career that contributes fresh and meaningful perspectives to the world of cinema.

Director’s Note:
With Inside the Inferno, I wanted to explore how disbelief, doubt, and unresolved fears can spiral into something terrifying. Horror has always fascinated me because it allows us to confront our anxieties in ways that are both unsettling and cathartic. This film began with a simple question: what happens when we dismiss forces we don’t understand?
From the beginning, my creative process centered on building tension through atmosphere and character psychology rather than relying solely on gore. The fortune teller’s warning, Damien’s skepticism, and Elizabeth’s terrifying visions were designed to blur the line between dream and reality, keeping both the characters and the audience uncertain of what’s truly happening.
Visually, I drew inspiration from classic horror cinema, focusing on shadows, flickering light, and sudden contrasts to immerse viewers in Damien’s descent into fear and paranoia. The result, I hope, is a film that doesn’t just shock, but lingers, leaving the audience questioning what is real and what is imagined.
Inside the Inferno reflects my belief that horror can be as much about emotion and psychology as it is about spectacle. It’s a story of disbelief, loss, and the terrifying cost of ignoring the unknown.

I'm thrilled to announce that my short film Inside the Inferno has received four incredible honors: Two Gold Awards for Best Student Film, Gold Award for Best Horror, and a Special Mention. These awards are a testament to the hard work, creativity, and passion that went into bringing this project to life. I'm grateful for the recognition and excited to continue telling bold, impactful stories through film.

Short Term Goal
Over the next six months I want to develop and produce a short film to build a portfolio showcasing directing and producing skills. This project should demonstrate storytelling ability, and leadership while collaborating with a small team of professionals. Submit the completed work to film festivals and online platforms to gain exposure and industry recognition.
Long Term Goal
I want to establish a successful career as a Hollywood director and producer by creating critically acclaimed feature films or television series within the next 10-15 years. Build a reputation for delivering compelling stories across diverse genres while collaborating with top talent and production teams.
